Notes / History | Curling is thought to have originated in 16th century Scotland. It was a seasonal activity on the Common and is said to have been introduced to this area by members of the London Scottish Regiment. A designated Curling pond was in use near Kingston Road and a second rectangular pond was also brought into use near Camp Road. Curling competitions continued to take place on the Common until the 1930s. Sadly the site of the old rink has now been converted to form a car park. |
