Notes / History | Pictured in the sitting room at Oak Cottage, Wimbledon. She was a prolific author who started writing stories and poems at the age of 6. Her work was first published around 1911, when a story appeared on the children’s page of a woman’s paper. By the age of 17 she had became the associate editor of “The Pelican”, a sports and theatrical paper. Most of Ethel’s books were written during the interwar years. By 1959 she had been married and widowed twice. |
