Notes / History | Swedish Soprano, Jenny Lind, pictured in one of her many operatic roles, c.1848. In 1852, Jenny married her accompanist, Otto Goldschmidt and they lived at various addresses in and around Putney, including Roehampton Lodge and Argyle Lodge, Parkside. Despite claims to the contrary, Mr and Mrs Goldschmidt never actually lived in Merton, although they are thought to have given recitals in the Wimbledon area. During the last century, Lind's association with South West London was commemorated by the naming of a public house, The Jenny Lind, on Inner Park Road, Wimbledon Common in 1959. |
