Notes / History | Patmore was a familiar figure in Mitcham during the late 19th and early 20th century. He was the son of a blind coal-porter who played the organ for a living. The instrument was wheeled round the locality on a donkey barrow and when the animal was finally retired, Patmore replaced it with an old pram. The laborious nature of his organ pushing persuaded Patmore to switch to the accordion, which he often played at local mission meetings. |
