Notes / History | Alderman Bailey served Mitcham in almost every civic capacity from 1920 to 1949. He was a former Councillor, Alderman and Chairman of the Urban District council. He fought eight elections and was well known for his vigorous independent policies. He served in the Boer war until a wound resulted in him being sent back to England. Before being discharged from the army, he was presented to Queen Victoria at Windsor. |
