Notes / History | This picture shows the pipes and barrels of the organ (centre) designed to create a stirring and echoing sound within the main body of the church. There may have been an early organ located in the original church, however this was probably removed during the Reformation. During the 18th century services were accompanied by a choir and musicians, although their work was sometimes risky. For instance, following the refurbishments in 1788, the temporary gallery housing the performers collapsed, throwing them into the congregation. Following the appointment of Reverend Henry Lindsay in 1819 a new church organ was installed, funded by voluntary subscription. |
