Notes / History | After the religious persecution of the Reformation, it took several centuries for religious tolerance to develop, allowing Catholics to practice their faith openly. Initially the coach house of Elm Lodge near Cricket Green was used for the discreet celebration of Mass. However during the 1860s this small brick chapel was built on the site now occupied by S.S.Peter and Paul School. |
