Notes / History This image shows the interior of the west end of the church. It is somewhat altered since the days when Nelson’s family worshipped here.

Then there were horse-box pews and the interior was dimly lit and unheated. Hymns were led by the village band and the congregation could sit in the gallery which is just visible in the background.

During the late Victorian era plaster was removed from the roof and new windows were installed to commemorate local landowner, John Innes. The gallery was removed a short time after this photo was taken.
