Notes / History Fireman extinguishing a fire at Eagle House Day Nursery in London Road, Mitcham.

Twenty four young children were evacuated when the fire broke out of the roof, but luckily no one was hurt.

Eagle House dates back to 1705. It was built for one of Catherine of Braganza's physicians, and before it was a nursery, it was used as a private boarding school and then as the infirmary for the Holborn Union Industrial School. The building is currently a school for autustic children.
