Notes / History | A Wednesday XI was started in 1921 by local shopkeeper, Tom Francis, whose village emporium stood on the London Road site now occupied by Tesco’s. The team catered for local shopkeepers and these who were unable to play at weekends. Matches were played against similar sides including the Croydon Pawnbrokers, the Piscatorials and the London School of Economics. |
