Notes / History | Competitors and spectators wait in anticipation of the final shot for the Queen’s Prize in the NRA Championships. When the Championships started in 1860, there were two “classes” of competition. The first was for Volunteers from different regiments, which had evolved from early militia forces. They competed for an annual prize of £250 awarded by the Queen, together with a gold medal provided by the NRA. The second competition was open to “all-comers” and rewarded the winner with a silver medal and a £100 prize, presented by Albert, the Prince Consort. |
