Notes / History | The NRA ran its annual championship with military precision. The camp, which housed the shooting competition, was run by its own team of officers – amongst tents shown here (left to right) are those belonging to the Medical Officer, the Camp Adjutant and a commanding officer, Major Lockyer. Ironically, the success of the annual event led to the downfall of the Wimbledon competition, Worried by the level of crowd congestion, and the need for larger facilities, the NRA opted to move the championship to Bisley. The final Wimbledon meeting took place in 1888. |
