Notes / History | The Club is nestled between Church Road on the left and Somerset Road to the right. Centre Court and the old No. 1 Court are clearly visible, with Courts 2 – 13 stretching out beyond. A croquet lawn still survives near the junction between the two roads, a reminder of the Club’s 19th century origins. (Notice the rows of cars parked near the ground. These hint at the enduring popularity of the game amongst the wealthier section of society, as car ownership was still rare during this period.) |
