| Notes / History | Southerton played for Surrey from 1845-55 and then for Sussex and Hampshire, but later replayed for surrey as a bowler. According to Tom Francis, Southerton walked to and from the Oval Cricket playing grounds for his matches. The cartoon was drawn with a kangaroo body, for which the purpose of making the slide, Tom Francis was to alter the body of a cricketer. The caption read ‘Our James contrived a double game to play; Draughts by night and Cricketing by day.’ |
