Notes / History The West Croydon to Wimbledon Line was opened on 22 October 1855. The station opened on the same day and was originally known as Morden Station. It was renamed three times: Morden Halt in 1910; Morden Road Halt on 2 July 1951 and finally, Morden Road on 5 May 1969.

This picture is thought to date from the 1920s, prior to electrification of the line (1930). The supported cable, top right, suggests that domestic power was available. The locomotive shown appears to be a Drummond, judging by its style of chimney. This type of engine was in use after 1923.

The last train ran from this station on 31 May 1997, after which the line was closed. Shortly afterwards the original platform was demolished. The two-platform Morden Road tram stop was then built, as part of the Croydon Tramlink network.
