Notes / History | The station opened with the Peckham Rye - Sutton Line on 1st October 1868. Waiting at Mitcham Junction for the special train to Brighton. John and Mary Chart organised these annual excursions which were real red letter days in the village when schools closed and Mitcham seemed deserted. Concerts were staged during the winter months to raise enough money to take the children on outings free of charge. Parents and friends could buy tickets for 2/6(12.5p). Note the girls' hats and boys' caps. |
