|Notes / History||This house was hit by one of the 36 high explosive bombs that fell on Raynes Park during the Blitz, a devastating second world war bombing campaign by the Germans in 1940 and 1941. The campaign, which was targeted at British cities, ports and industrialised areas had a devastating effect on London where 2000 inhabitants were killed or wounded on the first night (7th September). Many more were made homeless.
In total some 692 high explosive bombs and 6 parachute mines fell on Merton during this period.
