Notes / History | Crowds gather outside the Town Hall to celebrate Tank Week. The presence of early Army tanks, fresh from the Battle of Cambrai, was meant to encourage people to invest in War Bonds. Just visible in the background are Stanley’s Tailor’s shop and Marks and Spencer’s “Penny Bazaar”, which remained in these premises from about 1910 to 1931. |
