|Notes / History||When Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced the unconditional surrender of Germany and its Axis forces, there were scenes of joyous celebration throughout Britain.
8 May 1845 was officially declared Victory in Europe Day and although fighting continued in the Far East, the British people were allowed a "brief period of rejoicing."
This picture captures the spirit of celebration amongst family and friends living in Meadow Road. It was kindly provided by Alan Searle ( now 80 ). He was just four years old when this photograph was taken.
