LGBT+ History Month
February marks LGBT+ History Month. This is an annual nationwide celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and non-binary history, including the history of LGBT+ rights and related civil rights movements. It was launched in 2005 by Schools Out, an education charity with origins in the Gay Teachers Association.
LGBT+ History Month promotes inclusion, equality and understanding. It celebrates the contribution that LGBT+ people have made to all aspects of life in the UK, whilst also highlighting the prejudice they have encountered and the challenges that many still face in the battle for equality, safety and freedom of expression.
As part of Merton council's celebration of LGBT+ History Month, Merton Heritage Service has compiled a range of themed resources, from online displays, film, interviews and poetry, to useful websites and puzzles. We hope you enjoy them.
You can find details of other LGBT+ displays, events and film screenings on the Merton Libraries Events page.
