For much of its history Morden was a quiet rural community on the road from London to Epsom.

During the Victorian era local roads bustled with riders and horse-drawn vehicle en route to Epsom racecourse. Vehicles would pass by the Morden Hall estate which, between 1830 and 1870, held a private boarding academy run by Reverend White and his son.

In its heyday, Morden Hall Academy housed 73 students, aged from 7 to 15. In addition to their academic lessons, the boys also enjoyed cricket matches in the grounds.
