During the late 1940s and '50s Morden had a thriving shopping centre. The high street held everything from banks, newsagents and tobacconists, to clothing shops, food stores, chemists, florists and hardware outlets.
The streetscape was dominated by large Art Deco buildings constructed in the 1930s from the local Underground station and Morden Odeon, to a large Burton's store and the multi-storey Royal Arsenal Cooperative Society department store.
Local residents could find everything they needed on their doorstep - Morden also attracted shoppers from leafy Surrey and neighbouring towns.
