Notes / History Shown is a group of workers standing outside the perimeter walls to Baron House with a glimpse of the house behind the walls. Thought to be taken around 1870 when the ‘new’ house was taken over by Edward and Adelaide Mills and the grounds managed by a full-time gardener. In 1872 the grounds were opened for the first Annual Exhibition of the Mitcham Floral and Horticultural Society.

The ‘old’ Baron House was built in 1768 and demolished around 1826. It took its name from Oliver Baron, a barrister of the Inner Temple,
