Although not part of the Fair Green proper, this store was a popular part of the local shopping thoroughfare. the motto above the door read 'Shop for everything and everybody' and under the management of the Francis family, London House became a popular village emporium, selling an amazing variety of goods from clothing and boots, to household pots and pans, combs, toileties, basketry, fuel, garden tools, toys and cards. For a time it also housed a shoe repair service and in times of need, Mr Francis ran a soup kitchen for the benefit of the local community. |
