Notes / History | Built c.1810, this house replaced the original Morden Lodge built for ill-fated Jewish financier Abraham Goldsmid. c.1859 Morden Lodge was briefly the home of Army Colonel, Daniel Lysons, hero of the Crimean War. Here his wife, Mary, gave birth to their son, Henry, who was also to have a distinguished military career. In 1882 Henry Lysons was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions in halting an enemy attack on British forces during the Zulu war of 1879. |
