Notes / History | Procession passing Three King's Pond, proceeding towards Fair Green, Mitcham. The parade formed part of the celebrations for the Coronation of George V. The photo shows the 'Village Squirt' which was a hand operated fire pump, and the newer fire engines, which although operated by steam, still had to be pulled by horses. The steam powered vehicle also shown, is probably 'Caesar', a Merryweather engine financed by public subscription, including a generous donation from Caesar Czarnikow, a wealthy sugar merchant. |
