| Notes / History | During Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, Mr. Cooper, along with others, stands in front of horse carriages. The float belonged to Mr Cooper, a coal, corn, and flour merchant whose business was at the Cricket Green near the site of Robinson Dairy. It is a representation of Old King Coal (hence, a pun). Behind the cart, the Batsworth Road Allotment Holders banner can be seen. The people, from left to right, are the odd job man Mr. Jones, Mr. Cooper (brother), Mr. Cooper (boss), Mr. Cooper (cousin), Mr. Newsome (Old King Coal) and Bill Thomson who borrowed his smart rig-out from Mr. Jones as he had no best clothes of his own. |
