Notes / History | Aerial view showing the after effects of an explosion at the company’s distillery. One young boy was killed and twenty three people were seriously injured. Families living in Victorian cottages nearby were made temporarily homeless. The area was known as the ‘Redskin Village’. The explosion brought this community to an end. W. J. Bush and Co were distillers of oils and essences in the tradition of Potter and Moore whose business they had taken over in 1888. They remained in Batsworth Road until 1968 when they merged to form Bush Boake Allen. The works closed shortly after ending 200 years of Mitcham’s association with distilling. |
