|Notes / History
||Many of the small shops along the high street date from the nineteenth century and were originally constructed as housing. At the trun of the century, shop fronts were built over the existing front gardens. This cobbler's shop and adjoining sweetshop remained in use until the 1970s. The premises were then demolished as part of a redevelopment scheme. Notice the posters beneath the shop windows, many of which advertise local cinemas such as the Elite, Wimbeldon and the Grandad (now a Tooting bingo hall).
