Notes / History | A team of Shire horses pull a harrow over the fields of the farm. This type of spiked metal frame was used to break up clods of earth and cover newly scattered seed. At the time when this picture was taken, the farm was owned by property developer and philanthropist, John Innes. When he died in 1904, four of the farm horses were used to draw the wagon bearing his coffin to St Mary the Virgin Church in Merton Park. |
