Notes / History | Built on the former site of the Crown pub, Crown House was constructed by Bernard Sunley & Sons and dates from 1960. It originally housed commercial space and a postal sorting office. Caters supermarket was added to the forecourt area soon afterwards - this picture shows its construction nearing completion Merton council transferred the majority of its departmental offices to Crown House in 1985. The building became a fully functioning Civic Centre in 1990, following construction of a new council chamber, cafe and library extension on the former supermarket plot. |
