Notes / History | The present 17th Century Grade 2 listed house is on the site of a former Augustinian Priory. Situated within the grounds is an old carp pond, thought to date back to the Middle Ages. Seen through the fine casement window from a room within the Canons House is a Dovecote which is thought to be the oldest complete structure in Mitcham and to have been built by the Priory and Convent of St Mary Overly in the 16th century. At the time of this photograph the house had been substantially altered internally and externally and very few architectural features remained. The windows in the property have been much altered over the years and have been blocked off, enlarged and added. |
