Notes / History | John Innes was the key influence behind the layout and development of Merton Park. He created a number of employment initiatives for local people, in addition to housing schemes and support for widows and orphans. He was also the driving force behind the foundation of Rutlish School. This family group is pictured near the pond at the John Innes Recreation Ground, which opened in 1909. The precise date of this picture is unclear but it appears to have been taken shortly after the First World War. |
