Notes / History | Morris was very concerned that everything he produced at his works was of a high standard and a thing of beauty. He relied on the skills of his workforce, who he treated very well. The standard and conditions at his works at Merton Abbey were much better than those found elsewhere. People like Charles Harding, pictured here, would have under gone a long apprenticeship - at least seven years - to reach the standard Moriis wanted. Being a master carpenter Charles Harding would more than likely have worked in the furniture section of Morris & Co. |
