Notes / History | William Harland & Sons Ltd were paint and varnish manufacturers. They were associated with Mitcham from the early 19th century. It is not certain as to when the company was founded. One former employee said it was founded in Mitcham in 1791. Evidence shows that they established themselves in Mitcham around 1845. The company closed in the 1960s. This photograph shows coke pires heating 200 gallon capacity boiling coppers (c1920). Later replaced by gas and demolished in 1968. |
